NEWSFLASH: 15,000 Software Professionals Ask Congress Not To Dismantle The App Ecosystem
Fifteen thousand software professionals from across the nation have joined together to voice their concerns about proposed legislation, including the American Innovation and Choice Online Act (AICOA) and the Open App Markets Act, that would have serious negative consequences for small developers. In their petition, the group urges Congress to hold robust conversations with developers before advancing bills that would “fundamentally dismantle the app ecosystem.”
The bills have been rushed through the legislative process with little public input and scrutiny. “Developers feel that Congress has rushed through legislation with few public hearings and little scrutiny.”
The legislation would threaten market access for smaller developers while shifting additional burdens to those “least equipped to bear it.” “These bills threaten market access and existing app business models for small and mid-size developers, and shift the burden and liability of data privacy & security compliance to those least equipped to bear it.”
